File Document Act 3
Gertrude: (Aside) Hamlet has killed a man right before my eyes. I couldn’t have stopped him, could I have? It all happened so quickly. What was I suppose to do? I had no idea he was going to jab his sword into the curtain and kill dear Polonius. Although, he really shouldn’t have been spying on Hamlet’s conversation and mine. So is it my fault? I guess just a little bit. Still I wasn’t the one to stick a sword in his chest, it was my dear son Hamlet. I do not know what got into him but I know why he did it. He thought it was Claudius hiding behind the curtain.
When he told me about his father I did not know how to take it. I really did think he was crazy because of his love with Ophelia. Now I know it was not love and he is not crazy, it was a ghost of his father, I believe him now.
Also, with him killing Polonius he must flee the state of Denmark. This is a better way for Hamlet to leave and go to England. I am certain Claudius will take care of things and make all suspicions disappear, because we are the King and Queen of Denmark who would dare question our authority.
Hamlet will go to England and Claudius and I will deal with this unsightly matter. Plus no one will accuse or hold this incident against Hamlet, he is the Prince of Denmark. Mostly everyone respects and adores him.
